About

My Vision

Hello, I am Nate Alleman, the owner, and operator of Barefoot Lawn. My vision for Barefoot Lawn was simple; provide a quality lawn, with a personal touch, in an environmentally friendly way. I've acquired knowledge and experience after graduating from Penn State with a bachelors in turfgrass science and spending the last 15 years as a golf course superintendent.  I have taken newer technologies in fertilizers that golf courses have been using for years and transferred those to the home lawn, athletic fields and commercial properties.

Fertilization Programs

We customize based on your lawn's needs.

Using only high quality, polymer coated fertilizers, your lawn will receive a slow and consistant feed.  This helps avoid nutrient leaching and surges of growth. By combining natural organic fertilizers this helps to "sweeten" the soil by encouraging microbial activity and freeing up nutrients that would otherwise be unavailable for plant use.

Pest Control

We aim to control pests that can damage your lawn.

Grubs can do heavy damage if left untreated. Typically grub damage symptoms show up in late summer, when its too late. We offer preventative  programs that are safe for pollinators such as bees. Chinch bugs can also be a problem for lawns. These tiny bugs  use their mouths to suck water out of the leaf blade, leaving the turf to die.

Aeration and Over-seeding

These are important steps in maintaining the health of your lawn.

Aeration is a proven method of establishing and maintaining a healthy lawn. The process of removing a core helps with thatch removal, allows oxygen into the root zone, improves water infiltration and increases microbial activity among many other benefits . When over-seedng, we use the best turf type based on your lawn's sun exposure and microenvironment.

Flea and Tick Control

We can help to control pests that can harm you and your pets.

Western Pennsylvania is an endemic area for ticks that carry Lyme Disease which can affect both your family and your pets. We are knowledgeable in the safe application of insecticides to eradicate these pests.

Lime Applications

Soil pH is important in establishing your lawn's microenvironment.

All new customers will have a soil sample collected and analyzed at Penn State University to help determine your lawn's nutritional needs and soil pH. We also carry a soil pH meter for on the spot readings.
